ReConnect-Sustainability
Since the development of fast fashion brands, the shopping trend has changed. A lot of fashionistas can access newness from high-end catwalks every 2 weeks at an affordable price. However, due to the enormous amount of new clothing churning out in a short period, not only consumer behavior has changed but also the impact on the environment has increased. Zara, one of the fast fashion brands, is producing 1.4 billion garments per year. On the other hand, 23.8 billion pounds of clothes and shoes are thrown into the garbage each year, which means that 73 pounds are thrown away per person.
Easy buying new and fast abandoning habitual behavior has an enormous impact on the Earth. Especially, the route to Southeast Asia and Africa has been blocked after COVID-19, garments thrown into the garbage became even more intractable. Thus, I wanted to deliver the message about how serious the cause that our uninterested clothes could bring to the environment.
Process
3D models: using clothing that is not in use have cut and sewn into layers of Antarctica on suitcases
Video animation: mixed media of stilled images and animated videos collaged to describe environmental impacts on Earth and the texture of fabrics are regenerated with the texture of natural resources
3D mapping: 3D projection to 3D models
